What to stop doing when every priority is urgent

A quick triage for overloaded weeks when adding another productivity trick will not help.

When everything is urgent, the problem is usually not effort. It is the absence of a visible tradeoff. Something has to move, shrink or stop.

Sort work into three decisions

  • Protect: the outcome that truly cannot slip.
  • Reduce: the task that can be smaller, later or less polished.
  • Stop: the work that no longer earns its cost.

Make the tradeoff explicit

Tell the relevant people what is changing and why. Quietly accepting every request creates hidden risk; naming the constraint allows an actual decision.

Do not confuse a loud request with an important outcome. Ask what happens if the work waits.
