A good apology from a dad does not require a dramatic speech. It needs clear ownership, a real acknowledgment of impact and a different action next time.
Use four plain sentences
- I was impatient and raised my voice.
- That was not fair to you.
- I am sorry.
- Next time I am going to pause before I answer.
Leave out the escape hatch
Avoid 'I'm sorry, but you...' The moment you explain why they caused your behavior, the apology becomes another accusation.
Do not demand immediate forgiveness or reassurance. The repair is your responsibility. Give them room to respond, and let the changed behavior do the convincing.
