The emergency meal is not a culinary failure. It is a household tool that prevents expensive takeout, late eating and an argument at 6:40.
Choose three levels
- Five minutes: something assembled from pantry, refrigerator or freezer staples.
- Fifteen minutes: one familiar meal with minimal preparation.
- Pickup: one reliable option with a known price and order.
Keep the system honest
Use foods your household will actually eat and restock them when one is used. A freezer full of aspirational ingredients is not an emergency plan.
Write the three choices somewhere visible so the decision does not depend on the most tired person inventing dinner.
