The sleep reset that starts before bedtime

A realistic evening shutdown for dads whose brains are still answering email at midnight.

Better sleep advice often assumes your evening belongs to you. It probably does not. The useful target is a short, repeatable landing sequence that reduces tomorrow's friction and tells your brain the day is closing.

The 15-minute landing

  • Write down tomorrow's first task so your brain can stop rehearsing it.
  • Put the phone on its charger outside arm's reach.
  • Set out one thing morning-you will need.
  • Lower the lights and do the same quiet activity for five minutes.
  • Keep the wake time steadier than the bedtime when life gets messy.

Do not chase a perfect night

One late practice, sick kid or work emergency does not ruin the week. Return to the sequence the next night instead of trying to compensate with a heroic overhaul.

Persistent insomnia, loud snoring, breathing pauses or severe daytime sleepiness deserve a conversation with a qualified clinician. A routine can help, but it is not a diagnosis or treatment.
